In a world that loudly promotes “family first,” “hustle culture,” or personal success above all else, Jesus calls us to a radically different priority: God first.
This is not a call to neglect family or work — both are important gifts from God — but to keep them in proper order. When we love God supremely (Deut. 6:5), everything else finds its rightful place. Family relationships become healthier when rooted in Christ. Work gains eternal purpose when done “as for the Lord.”
The challenge comes when good things compete for first place. Jesus used strong language in Luke 14:26 and Matthew 10:37 to remind us that even the closest earthly bonds must never eclipse our devotion to Him. Exodus 20:3 warns against idols — anything we elevate above God.
Matthew 6:33 is both a command and a promise. When we seek God’s kingdom and righteousness first, He faithfully provides what we need. Anxiety fades. Life aligns. Peace comes.
